To put it simply; who doesn’t want their workforce to be more productive? As a business owner, it gives you more value for money! We all know that it can be difficult at times to motivate a large or small workforce but it doesn’t have to be that way! Through undertaking a series of team building tasks, training sessions and events you can have the motivation and productivity of your workforce on the up in no time at all! Whilst it sounds somewhat unconventional when compared to other forms of team building; hear us out! Next time your office needs renovating or decorating; don’t pick up the phone and call the local tradesmen but give your employees the task of renovating the office and sit back and watch them work together as a team. From giving them the job of sourcing absolutely all the materials; from dry wall screws to metal packers and everything in between…they’ve got the task of planning and undertaking the redecoration!

At first you may think we’re bonkers to suggest such a thing but trust us, it works! Your workforce have to work together as a team right from the outset to plan how they want the office to look, where they can get the materials and who can do what! In addition, if you give them a budget to stick to you’ll see them have to work together as a team even more closely to make sure they don’t go over budget and purchase everything which is needed.

Above all; it’s a task which is both fun and rewarding! You’ll see your workforce enjoying themselves and getting to know each other properly. Of course, once they return to their day jobs, you’ll hopefully see an increase in productivity and motivation and everyone will be relaxed knowing that they carried out the works on their offices themselves!

At least give it a go; it’s a bit of fun but fun that has serious underlinings. You’ll see just how much more you can get out of your workforce and see that they have it in them to lead and see through tasks from start to finish!

Sitting in an office all day can be difficult at times. There are plenty of distractions which decrease productivity such as other colleagues or more personal matters such as problems at home or lack of sleep. Finding a balance between work and home life is essential if you want to function the best way possible in everything you do, and relaxing is a key factor in doing so. However it isn’t quite as simple as it sounds. Finding the best method of relaxation for you is crucial in order to get your mind to switch off from other distractions around you and mentally.

There are plenty of easy and effective methods of relaxation which can be tried at home such as aromatherapy. Turn your home into a relaxing sanctuary with scented candles or some relaxing essential oils such as camomile, lavender or ylang ylang which are known to have beneficial factors such as helping you sleep. A few drops can be added to a hot bath, burnt in an oil burner or even added to water as a room spray. Another easy method to try at home is simply listening to music. Music has the power to completely transform your mood and emotions so listen to your favourite band at least once a day to set your mood.

One method which is slightly more expensive is to hire a hot tub. Relaxing in a hot tub has many health benefits which not many people are aware. They help problems such as insomnia, muscle tension, stress and even more serious issues such as some types of arthritis. It is very important to make sure you spend time relaxing whilst you are out of the office. Sitting in the same space day after day with no fresh air is not good for your health, so even if you just go and sit in a nearby park at lunch it will help your concentration and productivity levels. Stress stops the mind from working properly, and this isn’t what you want in your working environment as people could start to notice. It is not difficult to take time out to relax and you will feel so much better for it after at work and at home.

Motivate staff

Be assertive

When a manager uses assertive language, they are able to overcome any situation which happens. Whether a manager has to discipline employees or tell staff about what needs to be improved in order to boost profits, negative language should not be used at any point. Assertive language is a life skill and when a manager uses it to their advantage, the best outcome can be achieved no matter what happens.

Know the responsibilities of your position

If a manager has been promoted and previously worked alongside the people who are in their team, it can be very easy for them to maintain the same type of relationship that they had before. If a manager does not change their approach when they have been promoted, the working relationship which should happen between a manager and employees will not become apparent. However, if a manager does understand what their new role expects of them, the rapport which they should have with their team will be achieved.

Lead by example

When a manager expects their team to complete a heavy workload but spends most of their day lazing about, they are not leading by example. A manager will gain the respect of their team when they also work very hard. Many managers fail to understand the importance of leading by example. When a manager is respected, a team will like working for them.

Don’t be afraid to have fun

Although there are many benefits to being stern with employees, a working environment should be fun as well. Although the David Brent style of management is certainly not recommended i.e. don’t play the guitar during a team meeting, a manager could implement many activities which enable staff to have a lot of fun. As the saying goes, when a team works constantly and does not have fun, a dull working environment can occur.

When a company has a team of great managers, staff will produce excellent results.
