Increasing Productivity Through Employees Team Building Tasks

Published on April 22, 2013, by in Top Business Tips.

To put it simply; who doesn’t want their workforce to be more productive? As a business owner, it gives you more value for money! We all know that it can be difficult at times to motivate a large or small workforce but it doesn’t have to be that way! Through undertaking a series of team building tasks, training sessions and events you can have the motivation and productivity of your workforce on the up in no time at all! Whilst it sounds somewhat unconventional when compared to other forms of team building; hear us out! Next time your office needs renovating or decorating; don’t pick up the phone and call the local tradesmen but give your employees the task of renovating the office and sit back and watch them work together as a team. From giving them the job of sourcing absolutely all the materials; from dry wall screws to metal packers and everything in between…they’ve got the task of planning and undertaking the redecoration!

At first you may think we’re bonkers to suggest such a thing but trust us, it works! Your workforce have to work together as a team right from the outset to plan how they want the office to look, where they can get the materials and who can do what! In addition, if you give them a budget to stick to you’ll see them have to work together as a team even more closely to make sure they don’t go over budget and purchase everything which is needed.

Above all; it’s a task which is both fun and rewarding! You’ll see your workforce enjoying themselves and getting to know each other properly. Of course, once they return to their day jobs, you’ll hopefully see an increase in productivity and motivation and everyone will be relaxed knowing that they carried out the works on their offices themselves!

At least give it a go; it’s a bit of fun but fun that has serious underlinings. You’ll see just how much more you can get out of your workforce and see that they have it in them to lead and see through tasks from start to finish!

Top Ten Tips For Selecting A Landlord Insurance Provider

Published on April 3, 2013, by in Market Analysis.

If you own a rental property then you will need good landlord’s insurance to protect you from natural disasters, theft and damages to the dwelling. Since landlord’s insurance is different than many standard policies, it will take some research to find the right provider. Alongside SmartLandlord.co.uk (visit their website here) are the top ten tips for selecting a landlord insurance provider that will ensure you make a good choice. The first five are general tips, while the last five deal specifically with landlord insurance.

  1. Shop around. You shouldn’t just go with the first provider you speak to. Shop around so that you know you are getting a deal that is in line with the market.
  2. Look for experience. You should try to choose a provider that has been in business for a long time and has lots of experience dealing with landlords.
  3. Know the laws. Depending on where you live, the laws may require more or less insurance for a rental. Make sure you know the laws so you are always legal.
  4. Get Estimates. You should get estimates from at least 3-4 reputable providers and then compare them. Make sure the coverage is the same on each one so the comparisons are fair.
  5.  Get Recommendations. A great way to find a quality landlord insurance provider is to talk to other landlords. Ask them about their provider and if they are happy with the customer service.
  6. Go Local. The best way to ensure that your claims are handled quickly and efficiently is to have a local agent. Some larger providers will have you dealing with customer service representatives that might be on the other side of the planet. Make sure yours has a local office.
  7. Know the settlement style. Some providers only offer Actual Cash Value settlements, while others offer Actual Replacement Cost settlements. It is important to know the difference and what this means for your claim.
  8. Is theft covered? This is one of the biggest controversies surrounding landlord’s insurance, as many times tenant theft is not covered. Be sure to get a policy that covers tenant theft.
  9. What items are covered? If your rental has appliances, furniture, light fixtures or other things that could be damaged, be sure to ask whether they are covered.
  10. Natural Disasters. Most policies cover natural disasters in general but may not cover specific types of damages. Make sure to know the ins and outs of your disaster coverage.

Why You Need To Relax On Your Downtime

Sitting in an office all day can be difficult at times. There are plenty of distractions which decrease productivity such as other colleagues or more personal matters such as problems at home or lack of sleep. Finding a balance between work and home life is essential if you want to function the best way possible in everything you do, and relaxing is a key factor in doing so. However it isn’t quite as simple as it sounds. Finding the best method of relaxation for you is crucial in order to get your mind to switch off from other distractions around you and mentally.

There are plenty of easy and effective methods of relaxation which can be tried at home such as aromatherapy. Turn your home into a relaxing sanctuary with scented candles or some relaxing essential oils such as camomile, lavender or ylang ylang which are known to have beneficial factors such as helping you sleep. A few drops can be added to a hot bath, burnt in an oil burner or even added to water as a room spray. Another easy method to try at home is simply listening to music. Music has the power to completely transform your mood and emotions so listen to your favourite band at least once a day to set your mood.

One method which is slightly more expensive is to hire a hot tub. Relaxing in a hot tub has many health benefits which not many people are aware. They help problems such as insomnia, muscle tension, stress and even more serious issues such as some types of arthritis. They can be hired from around £40 for a week which is very reasonable and will be well worth your money.

It is very important to make sure you spend time relaxing whilst you are out of the office. Sitting in the same space day after day with no fresh air is not good for your health, so even if you just go and sit in a nearby park at lunch it will help your concentration and productivity levels. Stress stops the mind from working properly, and this isn’t what you want in your working environment as people could start to notice. It is not difficult to take time out to relax and you will feel so much better for it after at work and at home.

How To Be A Successful Manager

A company’s workforce is the backbone of a successful organisation. The staff that are at a company might be directly responsible for how high profits are. When a company has great managers, staff are motivated. Therefore, the best possible results can be achieved. So, how can a manager actually be successful?

Motivate staff

If employees complete the same tasks every day, their role can seem monotonous. To keep staff motivated, a manager could ask employees to complete other tasks which they don’t normally do. Having a varied day means that not every week will be the same as the next. Managers can also motivate staff by informing them about their achievements. When managers thank employees for their hard work and effort, they will more than likely feel very proud because their accomplishments have been pointed out.

Don’t shout at employees

Remember your schooldays? You probably didn’t enjoy being shouted at by your teachers. Some things never change because employees don’t like managers shouting at them. If a manager shouts at employees, staff may become unhappy and apply for other roles. When a workforce is happy, their productivity is not affected

Be assertive

When a manager uses assertive language, they are able to overcome any situation which happens. Whether a manager has to discipline employees or tell staff about what needs to be improved in order to boost profits, negative language should not be used at any point. Assertive language is a life skill and when a manager uses it to their advantage, the best outcome can be achieved no matter what happens.

Know the responsibilities of your position

If a manager has been promoted and previously worked alongside the people who are in their team, it can be very easy for them to maintain the same type of relationship that they had before. If a manager does not change their approach when they have been promoted, the working relationship which should happen between a manager and employees will not become apparent. However, if a manager does understand what their new role expects of them, the rapport which they should have with their team will be achieved.

Lead by example

When a manager expects their team to complete a heavy workload but spends most of their day lazing about, they are not leading by example. A manager will gain the respect of their team when they also work very hard. Many managers fail to understand the importance of leading by example. When a manager is respected, a team will like working for them.

Don’t be afraid to have fun

Although there are many benefits to being stern with employees, a working environment should be fun as well. Although the David Brent style of management is certainly not recommended i.e. don’t play the guitar during a team meeting, a manager could implement many activities which enable staff to have a lot of fun. As the saying goes, when a team works constantly and does not have fun, a dull working environment can occur.

When a company has a team of great managers, staff will produce excellent results.

The Necessity Of Obtaining Planning Permission

Unfortunately, it’s a simple fact that if you want to build almost anything, be it for business purposes or personal purposes, you’ll need to obtain planning permission from your local council’s planning committee. Of course, planning permission isn’t there to stop you building, however it’s there to ensure you do things properly and stick to all rules and regulations which are in place. Of course, applying for and trying to obtain planning permission isn’t always the easiest and most straightforward of things, however, and, as such, it can be a serious cause of stress for many business owners.

It’s often the case that, although obtaining planning permission for a particular project is an absolute necessity, you simply don’t have time to do it. Applying for planning permission can take countless hours of paperwork and phone calls and many business owners simply don’t have time to do this alongside other daily tasks. There’s only so many hours in a day and it’s something many could do without having to do, even though it needs doing.

As such, if you find yourself in this position, where you need to be granted planning permission for a project but don’t have time to handle it all yourself, it’s well worth employing a planning consultant to handle the process for you. Planning consultants are there to assist you with either part of or all of the planning process and to handle whatever you need them to handle. If you need them to handle the whole planning application for you then that’s what they’re there to do!

By using such consultants it can increase your chances of being granted planning permission, however, above all, it can significantly reduce the stress on your part and can reduce the amount of time you need to spend dealing with the application.p

Why Your Business Needs An IT Support Specialist

With the majority of businesses across the globe, from small e-commerce stores to multi-national blue-chip companies, relying on a multitude of IT services to simply operate on a day to day basis, it’s essential that down time of such systems is minimised, or completely wiped out if at all possible. When it comes to simply running the business each day, networks and other IT systems are a core part of almost all businesses and both reputational and financial issues can occur if these go down for even a short period of time.

As such, it comes strongly suggested that all businesses employ an IT support specialist in some form or another. Of course the specific support needs of a business will depend entirely on the size and structure of that particular company, however, as a general rule, it’s certain that support of at least a particular level is absolutely essential.

Just think about what would happen if your office network was to go down first thing on a Monday morning. Would you be able to get the weekends order shipped out? Would you be able to access those files necessary to prepare for the afternoons meeting? If the answer to either of these is no then it goes without question that you need to be employing an IT support specialist who can help to resolve these issues if and when they occur. Specialists are often able to be employed either on a permanent or a remote basis and are able to assist either in the day to day running of your infrastructure or simply as and when you need them.

One such company we’d suggest for handling your IT support needs is Nexus OS, a leading provider of IT support services in Exeter but who also offers remote services. We’ve used Nexus regularly and can quite simply say, they’re by far the best guys for the job! They know their stuff and will always be on hand to help.

Why Has The UK Payday Loans Industry Grown So Rapidly?

Published on October 29, 2012, by in Market Analysis.

In 2007, the UK payday loans industry received approximately 200,000 applications. Fast forward to 2012 and the same industry has seen almost 2 million applications…a growth of ten fold in just 5 years. It’s a rare occurrence that an industry see’s so much growth in such a short period, however payday loans have become the ‘in’ thing and have made short term borrowing accessible to almost all of the population…there’s no more long application process, credit checks and the like to simply borrow a sum of money for a short period.

As such, we thought we’d take a look into why the industry has seen so much growth and why payday loans have become so popular.

We spoke with Kwik Cash, one of the UK’s leading lenders, about the growth to try and establish why there’s been such a rise in the industry and they stated, “Over the past few years, we’ve seen a phenomenal increase in the number of applications for our loans. From our point of view, such loans have become so accessible and convenient that it makes much more sense for individuals to take out a short term loan for a few weeks as opposed to going through the lengthy process of applying to the bank.”

More than anything, payday loans offer a fantastic short term solution to immediate and emergency purchase requirements. Let’s say, for example, that an unexpected bill lands on your doorstep which needs to be paid within a week. You may well be able to afford it at payday in two weeks but if it needs paying in a week, a payday loan offers a fantastic solution to get you the cash straight away.

With such a growth in the industry, the UK payday loans industry has very quickly become one of the UK’s largest financial industries and, the way things are going, this looks likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
